Return to the BUILD
“In this stage, you finish assembling the left rear fender crown and fit the left rear fender to the body of your model.”
The steps in this stage will be similar to those we did on the other side of the car in Stage 109.

Finishing the Left Rear Fender Crown
Step 01
Fit the keyed post of the Left Rear Inner Light Housing to this matching hole of Left Rear Fender Crown Inner.
As in the previous stages, I recommend installing the Rear Tail Light LED before mounting this Inner Light Housing. Again, I first bent the leads of the free LED of our Left Tail Lights LED to 90 degrees and then pressed the LED into this housing:
With this cable seated in place, we can then go ahead and fit the Inner Light Housing to the Fender Crown as instructed:
Secure the Inner Light Housing into place from the inside with one (1) AP screw:
You can see the rounded notch for this LED’s wiring in the picture above. As the notch is fairly small, I recommend trying to tuck the shrink tubed section of this LED inside the Housing as best you can:
Gently, but firmly, press the Left Rear Inner Light Lens onto the end of the Inner Light Housing, as shown:
As we fit the LEDs into our two Light Housings already, I skipped the steps below:
- Go to your Chassis assembly and disconnect the Left Tail Light LED cable (marked ‘Q’).
- Retrieve your Left Rear Fender Crown assembly from the previous stage. Gently press the LED on the very end of the Left Tail Light LED cable into this hole behind the Outer Light Housing.
- Gently press the second LED of the Left Tail Light LED cable into the hole behind the Inner Light Housing.
Retrieve your Left Rear Fender Crown Rear Trim from the Stage 111. Press the holes in the tabs of the Rear Trim onto these two matching pins of the Fender Crown assembly, as shown.
Make sure the wires of the outer LED is not trapped underneath this part. The wires should fit through the center rounded notches:
Step 02
Fit the Fender Crown Inner to the Fender Crown Outer, making sure the Tail Light LEDs stay in place and the wires are routed as shown:
Begin securing these Fender Crown assemblies together with two (2) NP screws at these locations:
Continue to secure the Fender Crown together with one (1) LP screw at this location:
Finish securing the Fender Crowns using one (1) WP screw at this location, as shown:
Step 03
Fit the keyed post of Gas Cap Body into the matching hole of Left Rear Fender Rear Panel, as shown:
Then, fit the keyed post of the Gas Cap into the matching opening of Gas Cap Body, as shown:
Secure both Gas Cap parts into place from the other side with one (1) XP screw:
Step 04
Fit the Left Rear Fender Rear Panel to the inside of the Fender Crown assembly at the location shown, aligning the screw posts:
Secure the Rear Panel into place with two (2) DM screws.
This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Retrieve your Left Rear Fender from Stage 110. Secure the two Wire Covers into the holes at these locations with two (2) XM screws:
Fit the Fender Crown assembly to the inside of the Rear Fender, aligning the rounded tabs to the matching posts as shown.
Make sure not to trap or pinch the Tail Light wiring during this process.
Secure this Fender Crown to the Rear Fender with three (3) DM screws:
Retrieve your Left Rear Reflector assembly from Stage 112. Slide this into the rear end of the Rear Fender assembly, as shown:
Secure the Reflector to the Rear Fender from the inside with two (2) IP screws:
Step 04
Retrieve your Body assembly from Stage 109. Fit this Rear Fender assembly to the Body, aligning the mounting posts into the matching holes.
To make sure we get this step right and that the wiring is routed the correct way, I turned my Body upside down on a soft surface. As you fit the Fender, make sure the Left Rear Door Switch cable (marked ‘X’) is passing through this small notch of the Body:
Then, route the cables from the right side of the car along the underside of the Rear Door, as shown:
These cables should then pass under the rounded tab of the Left Rear Fender assembly through this space (arrow below). In the picture below, I only show two of them, but all three cables should pass through here:
Route the cables from the right side of the car along with the Right Rear Door Switch cable (marked ‘X’) and Right Tail Light LED through the Wire Covers inside the Rear Fender, as shown:
Begin securing this Left Rear Fender into place with two (2) YM screws at the front edge.
As there will be fourteen screws holding this Rear Fender on, I recommend to leave each screw loose until all of them are installed:
Continue securing the Rear Fender with six (6) IM screws along the long, upright tabs:
Continue securing this small rear tab of the Rear Fender with one (1) more IM screw.
Make sure the wiring we routed through this location is out of the way before adding this screw:
Finish securing the Rear Fender with five (5) NP screws along the lower edge:
When happy with the fitment, fully secure the Left Rear Fender by tightening all of the screws. While not technically part of this stage, I did temporarily pop the Left Rear Wheel Cover in place to see how it is going to fit. You can see how the notch in the Cover is where the wires will pass through and out via the two ‘blue tube’ holes towards the roof rack:
Thoughts
It is not a simple thing to install these Rear Fender assemblies, but we made it through! Keep the unused Left Rear Wheel Cover stored safely for now as it will not be needed until a later stage.
