“In this stage, you assemble the deck lights, fitting them to the roof of your model, as well as fitting the windshield wipers.”

Deck Lights and Windshield Wipers
NOTE: I have changed the order of the steps in this stage to make a bit more sense.
Head over to your Chassis assembly and disconnect the Front Deck Light LED cable (67C – marked ‘L’):
Feed a LED of this cable through the hole in the back of a Unity 46 Deck Light Base, as shown:
Next, press this same LED into the rear hole of a Unity 46 Deck Light, as shown.
The instructions do not mention this step, but I believe this is how these are intended to be assembled:
Then, press the two pins of this Deck Light into the matching holes of the same Deck Light Base.
The pins are different sizes, so these will only fit correctly one way. Also, the LED in each Deck Light may need to be rotated and the leads bent a bit to fit inside them each Base, as shown:
Repeat this process to fit the second LED of the Front Deck Light LED cable and assemble the second Unity 46 Deck Light in the same way:
Head over to your Chassis assembly and disconnect the Rear Deck Light LED cable (67D – marked ‘m’).
The magazine instructions incorrectly say this cable is marked ‘E’:
Repeat the process of the previous step to install these LEDs into the two remaining Deck Lights/Bases:
- Feed the LEDs of this cable through the holes in the back of two Unity 46 Deck Light Bases
- Next, press these LEDs into the rear hole of two Unity 46 Deck Lights
- Then, press the two pins of each Deck Light into the matching holes of each Deck Light Base
Since the wires of these Unity 46 Deck Lights will be quite visible on the roof of our Ecto-1, I decided to mask off the lights (and plugs) of these cables and airbrush the wiring with Vallejo Model Air 71.001 White acrylic paint. This should help them at least blend in:
Retrieve your Body assembly from the previous stage. Fit the posts of the two Deck Light Bases on the Front Deck Light LED cable into these matching holes at the forward edge of the Body roof, orienting them as shown:
Secure these Deck Light Bases into place from the inside with two (2) AP screws.
IMPORTANT: Once these Deck Lights are installed, take special precautions when handing the the Body! Especially when it is upside down, I find it best to rest the center section of the roof on a soft raised surface such as folded towels other sturdy, non-marking surface:
In the same way, fit the posts of the two Deck Light Bases on the Rear Deck Light LED cable into these matching holes at the rear edge of the Body roof, orienting them as shown.
Secure these Deck Light Bases into place from the inside with two (2) more AP screws:
Fit the Right Windshield Wiper Blade to the Right Windshield Wiper Arm (marked ‘R’) as shown, align the screw holes, and then secure these together with one (1) RP screw.
The two Wiper Arms are not the same and are not marked. As the flat edge of the D-shaped post on each Arm will end up towards the front of the car once installed, we can determine which side is which by placing them on our work surface with the flat post edges facing us:
With this understanding, we can fit the Right Windshield Wiper Blade (with the ‘R’ facing towards the Arm) as instructed and secure them together:
Next, press the post of this Wiper Arm into the matching hole of the Right Windshield Wiper Base (marked ‘R’), as shown:
In the same way, fit the Left Windshield Wiper Blade to the Left Windshield Wiper Arm (with the ‘L’ marking facing the Arm) as shown, align the screw holes, and then secure these together with one (1) RP screw:
Then, press the post of this Wiper Arm into the matching hole of the Left Windshield Wiper Base (marked ‘L’), as shown:
Fit the posts of the Windshield Wiper Bases into these matching holes of the Front Upper Intake.
The left Wiper assembly goes on the driver’s side and right Wiper on the passenger side as shown:
Secure these Bases into place from below with two (2) AP screws, one on each side:
This was an interesting stage. I am not sure what the instructions intended when installing the LEDs into the Deck Lights, but I am confident the LEDs should be pushed into the lens housing. And, now that those Deck Lights are installed, we have to take extra special care storing the Body assembly. I feel they could easily be snapped off.
